Infographics and development of a Processing/Java application for a research project with Dr. Tim Regan at Mircosoft Research, Cambridge UK.
The aim was to investigate how text visualisations can augment the reading experience and help give an instant overview and access to a text. The project focused on children’s book series’as this type of text has traditional and easy plot structures, which made it a good starting point for exploration. After analysing questions that readers are likely to ask from a book, e.g. who are the main characters, when, where and in what context do they appear, the development of visualisations for these different aspects took place. From the initial designs a visual concept for a web-based application was developed and in parts implemented using Processing. The projects aim was to gaininsight into how these finding can be applied onto other textual datasets like web-browsers.
