Print & Pattern
I started to work on designing and printing patterns for textiles using large format digital printing as well as heat transfer and sublimation print techniques. It allows for more detailed prints compared to screenprinting, although looking at this article over on stylebubble, high-end Hermès carrés are still printed using screenprinting and are incredibly detailed, as they use a screen for every colour (some require as much as 46 screens). I like the handmade feel and slight variations that can occur in a screenprinting (slightly frustrating though, if you don’t want them to happen on a particular design), but digital print opens up a lot more possibilities for the creation of artwork. Gradients, millions of colours, thin lines and subtle colour changes are not a problem as it’s pretty much like ‘printing on paper’. First designs below.

Fabric Love
I am doing a screenprinting course at the Working Mens College in Camden. Really enjoying this hands-on way of producing designs, great being away from the computer, and just experimenting with colours and techniques without being able to press +Z. A few more weeks to go so will put up more results then.

An apple a day
elbe has given a little donation to Unicef and received an image of this little fella by illustrator Chris Haughton. It’s one of many lovely apples that can be “watered” (with a small donation) on the 5050grow.com site to help raise funds for Unicef’s famine relief in East Africa. The 50/50 project (initiated by Good for Nothing and Made by Many) asked 50 creative/design/digital makers to contribute a project to help to make a dent in the huge funding gap.
This particular idea was set up by Dublin based agency Aad & Bluntworks. They have written an article about the context and process of building the site on their website (here). It gives a bit more insight into the ideas behind the project.
Particularly like it, as it engages (lots of lovely illustrations makes choosing very hard) but also gives something back as you are getting a highres illustration of the apple you just watered.
There are more projects to back here.
